metal. Does not seem to separate. Mixes better than I thought. Maybe after sitting for a longer while it might separate.

it’s an old metal Matco (I think) parts washer. The tray has done worn to the metal bare spots. They never corroded until I started using simple green. Wiped the corrosion off and put the wd40 in there. Headed to get more simple green. Doesn’t work very well on that black film that coats things. Gonna see if I make it stronger if it’ll help

see the few orange sports? Those light spots become orange like that. Badly. I should have taken a pic before wiping it. Anyways, I’ll know tomorrow if the wd40 helped.

Ok so I added another 1.5 gallons. It cleans quite good now. This experiment cost me more than varsol would have or lots of brake cleaner but it’s far more pleasant to use. However, knowing what I know now, I could use 1 quart of wd 40
and 2.5-3.5 gallons of simple green. It seems to clean that black film on the parts now. I’ll post tomorrow after I clean more parts. Got 4 units to do right now.

On the rust , Did you try the rustlick I mentioned. I Only run a gallon of simple green adding as needed and 1/4 gallon rustlick. Now bear in mind i do have mine heated to 120f too. but I never see rust at all.

nah I didn’t try it. I didn’t want to have to order it and it was quite expensive. I wanted to find an easy to get alternative and I know wd40 is used for rust prevention.

Ah ok , it is expensive but in 6 months only used 1/4 gallon . Seems like the wd40 would separate out with the oil?

it mixes fine when it’s running. I’ll look at it when I get home and see if it’s separated.

nah it seems to work fine. Actually reminds me of the coolant fluid they use at cam motion when I worked there, in the cnc lathe and mills. The wd40 actually eliminates any soap bubbling of the simple green. It has a very low odor but a pleasant smell. Much better than varsol. Overall it doesn’t clean quite are fast, but it still does a good enough job. It did not cause any corrosion on the pan in the washer. Before the wd40 added it would corrode in a day. The cool thing is it always shoots out clean fluid as the dirt, grit and oils either float of sink and don’t mix in.
