TH400 question: slow movement when cold?

TH400 question: slow movement when cold? i recently swapped from 4L60E to a TH400 with RMVB and transbrake. i noticed on a cold start and ambient temps lower than 40*F that the car barely moves on its own at idle in gear. even shifting between gears theres virutally no feeling of engagement. i didnt want to apply too much throttle if it'd cause burning clutches and all. is this typically normal with the TH400?
