Default Drain plug drip

I have a very slow leak from my transmission drain plug. It's a new trans that was just installed and the plug was torqued to spec. I'm going to drain it and try a new gasket but is their any harm in using a thread sealer on the drain plug?

Check that it has a sealing washer, Most drain plugs do, If not you can get at hardware stores brass or teflon

I think I'm going to pick up a new drain plug and washer and swap it while trying to lose as little fluid as possible. Hopefully that cures it.

I know all the pans i send on units which are new use a washer , which I do not install the plug as it sticks down to avoid possible damage to pan . instead I place in dipstick hole. However on a couple cases the customer did not realize the washer was there and lost it (really my fault I should have told them)and ran into same issue slow drip.
This is why i brought that up , With washer you should have no issues, Even the stock pan has a washer. Good luck .

Yeah I bet when I pull the plug the washer is missing. My 16 year old son and I installed the trans the plug was one of the last things we did and we were both pretty tired by then. I'll run to town tomorrow and grab a drain plug and washer.

Yeah lesson learned when your helper is a 16yo you must be very specific about things. There was a lock washer on the drain plug. I installed a new drain plug with proper crush washer that was threaded for 1/8 npt for a temp sensor.
