Default my trans fiasco

This is more of a time killer story than a problem thread😆. Just forewarning

So back in '24 I posted here. Just before I was getting married the trans went out in my 96. I do alot of heavy towing and off roading with heavier tires so I wanted to build the trans right and upgrade to a 2 peice trans case. So I went through all the effort. Researched up and down... Posted a parts list here. Had a few conversations with sonnax and spend a **** ton of money. This thing has every part in it you can buy with the exception of billet shafts and smart tech housing. But if sonnax makes it.. It got bought. Smart shell, hd reaction shaft, sleeve kit, performance pack, tc etc. I even bought the reman hd valve body. Irvin Gers at Raybestos even recommended me a specific clutch set for what I wanted to do (high static, heavy downshift protection etc) and I got all the clutches and steels individually from WIT and global (iirc).

So I had the trans built by a great trans guy recommended by the forum... but had it put in at a local "mechanic" since he let me park the truck there for a couple months... this moron put bolts that were too long In the torque converter and 50 miles later my brand new trans was trash. You think this loser stood behind his work?.. Nope.. 2800 install.. Wasted...

So I take the truck back to the guy who built it and he pulls it apart and tells me when happens and goes through it again and puts it back in the truck the right way with a new converter and all is good. Another 2300 bucks but whatever.

So I have the truck for 2 weeks and it snows. I'm driving to where I hunt and come around a corner and a snow plow is in my lane. I run off a cliff sized ditch bank, hit a drive way, bend the frame, break the u bolts on one side of the rearend, and rip the drive shaft out. Lost some fluid in the trans but I killed the engine less than 20 seconds after impact so no harm I'm sure.

So... Now... I have about a $9000 transmission sitting in my garage floor.

Anyone wanna make an offer? 😆😆

The engine In the picture... Also a fun story. Built in 99. Vortec head were ported and polished by hendrick (the NASCAR team) head guy. Rods pistons cam etc all upgraded. 175k miles on it. Family heirloom so she's gonna get a rebuild. If I keep this trans I'm thinking about putting the whole setup in a jeep or something. SBC isn't really up to drag racing... Even with the towing trans its still outdated for pulling real work loads. Not really sure what else to do with it but make a 4x4 with a. Nice thump

Post a picture of the converter, we may be able to fix it.
