Default ATF Fluid?

What is the best AT fluid for an A-4. I will be installing a TCI SSF3500, Trans-cooler, and deep pan shortly. Would like some opinions on which Trans fluid you guys use. Thanks

Cool trans fluid

I agree with Loudmouth LS1, Royal Purple or B&M Trick shift .thay are more expensive but how much is it for a transmission. If u dont want to spend that much use the trans. fluid GM puts in from the factory it is desisgned for years of reliability.

I was always told to use a non-synthetic formula for our trannies equipped with converters......reason being it has less slippage.

I assume this is still the general consensus...maybe more people will chime in

Non synthetic here. I was told with the high mileage (59k+ at time of TC install) on my car that it would not be a good idea.

Dexron-III ATF only. The entire transmission is designed around the fluid.

I'm using and I recommend Neo Synthetic ATF fluid. It meets the Dextron III specs, so it's safe. It will cost you $$$, but it works!!! It's $39.95 gal, or you can get 5 gals for $188.

Here's where you get it:

The most respected tranny builders on this board recommend Dexron III only, as stated above by James B.

Any Dextron III is good, and royal purple is WAY OVER RATED! Dont spend 5 bucks a qt for that ****. We use good ole Pronto ATF, works in the best trannies we got, car doing low 11s & low 10s with stage 3 trans and even our special stage 3 1/2. Getting excited here in the next couple weeks, were stripping my car down and doing a little weight loss program and taking aim at Pabones old title. But Im staying with the 4L60E bc I love my OD! Neways, just regular tranny fluid works fine, if it gets hot, just flush it and put some fresh stuff in to protect the viscosity. If you really need the pay for the high dollar stuff, it wont hurt, just make sure its the DEXTRON III type fluid.

I run elcheapo black bottled stuff from NAPA or Carquest and I change often.

BTW, there are a number of cars on this board running Type-F tranny fluid with good results.
