a4 vs. m6 from a roll

one of the main reasons a4's suck from a roll is the shifting. Get that thing tuned to downshift to maxamize your power band. All of you a4 guys know if your going over 30 mph it stays in second gear. First gear maxes out at 45mph with 3.23 gears so why not use it. Trust me even with a converter you need to change the dowshift speeds. Only way to know is by trying it than you'll see. The same goes for 2nd and 3rd gear, change the mph where it downshifts like 5-10 mph.

Mine does super good w/ the 3500 stall punching WOT up to 50-60, even with the 2.73 gearing. The faster the roll, though, the more the gearing of the 6 speed shows favor. I raced an LT1 6 speed from a 70 MPH roll a while back (he was trying a flyby) and I slowly but surely pulled ahead so that when I hit 130 where I have the limiter set I was probably still a good 6 car lengths ahead. I wouldn't necessarily say this is typical, as I haven't raced any other LT1'S or LS1'S from a roll that fast.

A4s are at their best from a stop.after all is that why you get a stall?to be able to launch harder?



my stall did remove all my deadspots and its a mild stall compared to most ls1s.
I've had a stall for over a year now, but never have raced an m6? I might try my friends cammed Ws6 from a roll and see how he pulls me from a roll?

have you ever raced an ls1 m6? I know that an a4 will beat an lt1 m6 pretty easy.

Stock for stock, I will use this as an example:

99 Z28 A4 w/ ST3500 Stall Converter
99 Z28 M6

The Stalled A4 will win by a good margin correct?

when i punch it my "too small" stall always gives to about 4800-5000rpm on a roll.

i raced my bro's car, he has a 216/220 cam 114lsa i have a 224/226 cam 112lsa, he had a fatter car (ws6) and two folks,i started to pull towards the top of 3rd.

both cars best time pretty close his 12.2 (et's) to my 12.16(nittos), mine hasn't broke yet lol, cost of ownership has been less on mine but i baby the car and dont race too much. Unless you include insurance premiums,lawyers, court fee's. Then we might be more even lolol.

Man, you pulled and an m6 in the top of 3rd gear on an auto? You guys was running well over 100. Who was winning before the top of 3rd? What gears do you brother have?

dunno but his **** + 1 extra person is a disadvantage, we were rolling to the track so we were doing 65-70 to begin with. he's getting a real cam and heads now so i'll be slow again

This is only correct if they are racing from a dead stop. If they are racing from a roll the M6 will win.

I have raced quite a few Auto LS1s from a roll and from a dig. b4 my 4.10 gears i bet the **** out a T/A from a dig and took out a few Z28s like mine. there is this once when i raced a Z28 from the dig, i gave him 1 car head start and it was a damn good race, i only beat him by 1 car, now that i have my 4.10s, DR, clutch and flywheel, i usually tear **** up off the line and on the go. 4.10 gears helped me out the most out of all my mods

Like "BubaGumpShrimp" said tune your pcm for better downshifts. My T/A has 2.73 gears . As soon as i got my HPtuners i went in and changed the downshifts. Now my car downshifts into 1st gear at 42mph!

One of my friends bought a '01 SOM WS-6 M6 last week. He wanted to run so we went from a dig at a light. I pulled him a car length then he sucked me up when we let off we were side by side(we probibly only went like1/8th mile). He as complaining that he still wasnt comfortable with his take off and asked if we could go from a roll. we were going like 20mph and hit it. He immediatly pulled like 1 car then steadaly pulled on me we stayed in it untill about 90 at which point he had like 2 1/2 lengths on me. He confessed that he jumped a little early. regardless he still pulled away from me a couple of lenghts.

Is his car stock with just bolt-ons?

Yea, his car is stock as well, only a K&N filter & pro 5.0, The only thing i have on him is my TSP lid. I found out today when my SES light came back on that now my cat on bank 1 is clogged. less than 700miles ago I had the one on bank 2 replaced. oh well, im changing to an off road setup next monday.

can you post up your downshift tables so we can see whaddup. prefer hptuners style, but i can figure it out from ls1edit too.

Just to get a baseline where my downshifts are.
