Need help with tranny sell
I bough a tranny from a sponsor on here, who will remain nameless for the time being. I got it out of a 2001 LS1 with only 34,xxx miles on it. The seller informed me that he drove it while it was still in the car (which he bought wrecked to part out), and that it felt firm, and responsive with no slipping. When I received the tranny, it had a GM Remanufactured sticker on it, basically saying it was a refurbished unit. I was never informed of this. However, I thought it must be even better than before if it had a rebuild, so I pressed on with my install. After I got it all together and drove it, I noticed the clutches were slipping real bad. I have a big 3500 stall and I noticed the clutches were slipping bad, so I could imagine how easy it would have been to tell under a stock application. I had the converter taken to a transmission shop and flushed while it was out of the car, and by a very reputable indestructible 4L60E builder (Dave @ Rock-On Transmissions), and he said it looked perfect, even the wear... SO, I know it wasn't my converter. I paid $460 after shipping for the transmission. What would you guys do in my case, and what would you ask for as far as compensation for the bad part? Thanks for reading this whole thing!

Well, you really got it for the price of a core. Basically, that's all you've got since it need a full rebuild. The way I see it, if you were looking for a transmission that you wanted to rebuild you could have set out looking for a non-functional unit in the first place and spared yourself the wasted fluid and installation. Or better yet had your own rebuilt where you at least know the history. You payed for a functional transmission with only 34K on it, not a already rebuilt non-functional trans with who-knows what mileage on it. Call them up and ask them to make good. What was done to you is fraudulent, regardless of the price you paid. If you don't get warm fuzzies from the conversation, share it!
Thanks for the input. You are thinking exactly on the lines I am thinking, except in DFW I can get a core for $50-100. It was a great price... on a FUNCTIONAL transmission. This transmission is about to go. Is there any way that clutches can slip do to 'roughed-around' shipping? Not to my knowledge. I am extremely upset about this, as my car is 500 miles away. I have to pay to get there and back, slave over it to get it done in time, and still leave without it. It's bullshit and I won't put up with it anymore. If the seller does not make right VERY soon, I'll be posting the company name and explaining the entire story with testimony from Dave @ Rock-On Transmission (already talked to him about looking at it). I am a pretty stubborn person, so I'll be posting the story in every post that they make (call me an *******
). This, of course, would not be good for a company that is trying to get a decent reputation in the LS1 market. Anyway, thanks again for the help, and any more opinions are welcome!

Yeah, that's too bad. Already stated, the trans can be used as a core which is usually $600 from a good trans shop. At least you can sell it to them and actually make $150 if you think about it. Too bad you have to buy a rebuilt one now instead of riding the "Good One" you tried to buy already. Good luck to you.
Thanks a lot for the good wishes.
A 4L60E core would never sell for 600... lucky to get 100. The guy is offering me a new tranny with 17xxx miles on it for $250 more. It cost him to get it, and that's the difference. All I have to do is pay $250 more ($650 total), and pay to ship the old one back and he shiped it to me at his cost. Sounds like he is really trying to make good, so we'll see what happens.
