Default 323s to 342s

I was wondering if it would be worth switching stock gears to 342s. I was thinking about going to 373s to tighten up my sy3500, but a buddy has a set from his M6 lying around. Would it be worth the labour charge. Besides tightening up the converter I was also looking at a steeper gear for a bit more fun on the street. Thanks for opinions

If you want to upgrade go with the 373's especially if you have any more mods planned in the future. I replaced my stock gear w/ 373's and like it alot better. Wish I'd have just got a 12bolt though.

I changed from 3.23's to 3.42's. But my rear end was f'ed and I needed to replace them anyway, I put a set of M6 gears in. Just remember with a 10 bolt, the higher the gear you go the weaker it'll be, plus 3.73's are hard to quiet down, they tend to whine.

Your implying that switching from 3.23s to 3.42s will give you bad gas mileage

i'd rather have 3.23's. Nitto's useless with 3.42's at track. Oh well ready put them in.

It's a .0588% difference. That's not much in terms of a performance gain. Take the TQ converter into consideration and it's even less.

5.88 sounds about right. I have not noticed that much in a loss of mpg, the converter is a killer though. at 80mph I picked up approx 200rpm over the 3.23's. City driving with a converter is a killer on mpg with any rear gears.

3.23s to 3.42s is pointless. There is not enough of a difference to make any gains. Check a gear ratio/rpm/mph chart (jrp has a link on his sticky or at f-body.org). Now 2.73s are a different story ...

if your locked up in 4th you got some serious tuning issues, go tweak bank1/bank2 o2 mvolt switching points and fix your ltrims afterwards in the 400-2000rpm range.

should get 22min unless your foot is just too happy
