4L60E-Which Clutch Set?
4L60E-Which Clutch Set? Okay, i currently have my tranny tore down. I knew the 3-4 clutches were gone, but i have also found another set of clutches that need to be replaced. I am trying to figure out what they are called though. Sorry to sound stupid, but i dont have a way of finding out short of going to a tranny shop to show them and find out. Hopefully someone can tell me!
When tearing down the internals of the tranny, you have the input drum assembly. Now, there is a set of clutches you have to remove before getting into the deep internals of the 3-4 clutches. Which clutch set is that you have to remove to get to the 3-4 area? These are what are toasty.

You really should get the ATSG TechTran Manual and the Update Handbook that goes with it if you want to do your own work.
The other clutch pack is probably the low/reverse. Use the RayBestos Z-Pak clutch set for the 3-4. While in there replace the band with a Kevlar unit too. High-Performance materials are available.

i already have a alto set for the 3-4 setup. i don't actually reassemble it myself, i have a transmissionbuilder come to my house and go through it all at assembly. i am jsut tearing it down and cleaning getting ready for him to come over to do it, jsut wanted to have all the parts ready.

Use the Hi-Energy 2-4 band from Borg Warner, they will do a better job than the Kevlar band. I will not use the Kevlar band in any of my units, they will not hold up. The Raybestos Z-Pak could be ok, I am still waiting for the jury to come in on this. I use the Borg Warner Hi-Energys here. For Street/Strip use I install 8 in the 3-4 clutch pack. There is much more that you can do to this unit to make it last/perform, but what you want to do is a good start.
Okay, maybe i should re-describe this area. When looking at the input drum assembly. What would be the first set of clutches you would see? you remove a snap ring and what clutches are you pulling out?
