BIG stall question... I'm picking up some of George Coffey's old parts from his Z this weekend and I am debating on getting his old verter too. But it's big! Behind his ARE 382 it stalled 6000 with the transbrake! What do you guys think about using it on a cam only car? I figure I am only making a fraction of his power so it should be a little tamer than when he had it. I spin mine too 7000, maybe 7100 at the most. Is it even worth trying? And I hate to even ask, but, I'm assuming spraying this verter is out of the question?!?! Thanks.
For a race application, I would run a converter that had moderate shift drop. So if you shift at 7000, you don't want a converter that drops to 5000 on the shift. You'd want it to shift at 6000 if you want to be hardcore... so the answer is, it depends.
Some say that you want to pick a converter that flashes 400-500 rpms below peak torque. I would say that is a general rule that is probably not alway true.
It really depends, cuz if you go to big you might spend most of the run driving thru the converter in 3rd gear.
