Default 700R4 tranny

One of my good friends has a brand new rebuilt 700 r4 tranny from amco with a shift kit. Would it be beneficial for me to buy it and put a stall in it for my 98 trans am. Do many people run the 700 r4s on their ls1s? Is it possible?

The 700R4 is almost exactly the same as a 4L60-E, except for the electronic valvebody. In terms of stregths and weaknesses these transmission are the same. I wound consider it a downgrade from a 4L60-E.

The 700R4 has a better reputation, but is that just because it wasn't being used with as much power back then? Hence less breakage?
