need professional help on converter selection
i ordered a th350 with alum. drum, break, and all the goodies. now for the hardest part, pick out a good converter. im running a 4000-7000 rpm cam(tsp 231/237) and i want to spray right out of the hole at least 100-150 shot. im not worried about the money or the wait, i want the most efficient, reliable converter that will make me go as fast as possible..thanks
If you are spraying out of the hole at least 150 wet on top of heads & cam you are looking at a 550 ft-lb launch, or more. Most of the off-the-shelf converters for our cars are not designed for that. A Yank PYE 3600 might do the trick, but you are better off calling someone like Yank and having one made to spec.
Hey I'll bet you might could still go a little higher, like in the 4,400 range but check with someone who really knows converters like Jack @ Precision Converters 901-466-0267. I trust him for converters. Hope this helps , Matt.
A LS1 converter rated for 3600 (NA) will stretch out to 4000 (or higher depending upon the design) under a 150 wet shot off the line. Nitrous really works its magic when you let it build torque. A tight converter will really put the Nitrous to work. A loose converter will be more likely to convert the power to heat.
You can get a 4000 stall that might be a good compromise. If you are serious about the spray, you should build for it.

Contact the guys at Frank Lupo's Dynamic converters.
They just made me a custom made 4200 stall TC for my TH400 swap.
I am running heads and cam LT1 with a planned 150 shot.
They will ask you specs on your motor and what you have planned then build you the converter.
