Default I think I screwed something up

I just bought this car a week ago and haven't had to much time to drive it. So yestarday I went out because it was a beautiful day for a cruise and I was ramping on it alittle messing with a friend. Then we went out to the highway and were getting after it pretty good, but I never noticed anything. Alittle while later I notice that I have no power. I mean now I can get into it in my drivway and crank it to drive off and it just barely wants to crawl out of the driveway. When I get it going I dont have the take off when I step on it that I had earlier yestarday. I mean I could stand no it and I would go now it just crawls. Is this a tranny problem or what? I have no idea.

Well today when my wife was driving my car to town she said that she would be driving along and then it felt like it was in neutral. When I got home I drove it fine for the first couple of blocks, ran fine then it started dong it. Was cruising around about 40 and it seemed like it slipped into neutral just revied out. Barely made it home. Fluid is darkish red with some black in it. I am going to try to get the pan off sometime this week. Any help would be great.

It's your trans. Sounds like it's just about given up. You should get it to a trans shop asap.

Question

There is no local tranny shop here. What should I be looking for when I pull the pan off?

Metal shavings, chunks of metal, nasty smelling/looking fluid. Your fluid should be bright red, not "darkish with some black" What you described is the classic symptoms of a trans that is about to die. If you keep driving your just gambling on when it's gunna give up completely and leave you stranded with a nice tow bill ontop of the trans bill.

Good luck with it.
