My trusty 4L60E has started slipping under heavy torque a couple of weeks into my new motor. I can get a great deal on a 1996 4L60E out of a former cop car to use as a core, if it will work with my 2000. I'd like to have a high-HP rebuild done on a core, and swap in before I have a complete failure....

My guess would be that there are just enough small differences/electronics differences so it won't work, or won't work well. Does anyone know if this will work?

 

Won't work. Get a core off an LS1 car.
