Transmission jack question

Will a typical trans jack clear our cars if only up on jackstands? Didn't know if they were only practical if you had a lift. Also, got any suggestions of where to pick one up at? Sears has them for 289, anywhere else?

I dont think they will. Use a floor jack with a plate on it. Thats works pretty good. Just dont let it roll off on top of you. Let me know if u need some help. Justin
