Default What will a TCI 3500 stall do?

I am going to get a verter next week I am interested in a TCI 3500 for $529. I drive my car on the weekends. I have a couple questions?
Will the 3500 do the job?
Will I beat a stock M6 ls1 from a dig and roll?
Will it damage or affect my car at any time or if I drive it alot?

What else do I need to get when I get the verter?
How much did you guys pay for your install and how long did you wait?

TSP sells them cheaper than that. I would look into them i bet they have some in stock too. I just baught one from them i love it. A4 i would always race from a dead (if you have tires) It helps kill the dead spot at 30 MPH but still isnt as good as a 6 speed. I think TSP does install for 250. I would also recomend geting a tranny cooler. I went with the smaller one cause my car wont see the track that much for a few years.

Well, I have it and it roasted my stock tranny. I have only a few other boltons. Car had only 29k miles on it, had the SSF 3500 on it for only 3k of those miles and my tranny went poof. However, I never had it tuned, so that could have been a factor. I'd spend the money on a beefed up tranny or rebuild first if I could do it all over again. My buddy just put on a SF 3000 on a 55k mile car and I'm anxious to see how long it lasts. Just my 2 cents.

With that stall I think you would be faster off the line than an M6 and it would take a great driver to be side by side with you if mods were equal. JMHO.

Uhhhh.....if you don't get it tuned, your digging your own grave!! That is just plain stupid.

Tranny cooler, tunning, and I would say fluid change. A must!

Well, I had the B&M deep pan and the cooler and fluid. I didn't get it tuned, but didn't really get on it too often. But, just a few hours ago, I noticed my tranny fluid hose dangling. It looks to have fallen off while I was driving, and I don't have any tranny fluid so that's what probably burned everything out. I'm now thinking it wasn't the stall, but I'm pretty sure it didn't help.

I had an SSF3500 in my 01. Good verter. It should not burn up your tranny as long as you take care of it. Get a tranny cooler and shift kit. You will need a little tuning for torque management and possiblly shift points. If it's only a weekend street strip driver you might consider a bigger verter like the Yank SS4000.The STR is similar to the SSF3500, and the shift extension keeps the revs a little higher that the SSF between shifts. Installs will run a few hundred for the tc, cooler, new filter, fluid, gasket, and shift kit. I would expect to leave it with a shop for a day to get this all installed.

I've had mine for almost a year and no problems. Only thing that happens is the SES light comes on. It tricked the ECM into think the Shift Solonoid is stuck on. A Tranny cooler is a must, I haven't got a tune and the Stall along with ET streets I lost .7 and gained 2 mph on my track time. Track prep sucked so I wasn't hooking most of 1st. so I'm sure a full second loss is there. But the SSF3500 is a real good converter. Maybe with a tune I'll get that full second off for sure.

I am untuned, and havent installed the tranny cooler after a year. Probably on borrowed time. Anyway to answer the question provided. If you master your launch you can annihilate a 6speed with the same mods from a dig. i lost to my friends 026speed in all of 2003, roll stop you name it. install headers/stall and didnt lose one time in 04. I lost once to a bolton ls1 last year b/c i blew my launch. When its not winter my car is my daily, or was until dec. No probbs, no issues. And I have 273s! Get the stall, you will more than enjoy it. With the headers/stall/tsp rumbler I went from 13.7@102 with 2.0s to 12.55@107.99 with 1.7s

3500 is definately a good choice, very streetable. With a quiet converter most won't even know you have a verter. A trans cooler is a must. I have my stock transmission, put the verteron at 30k, now I have 40k and its still working great. Honestly i'm not sure how much 'tuning' can save your converter, I deleted all my torque management and upped the shift pressure so its actually under more stress, then again tighter shifts will prolong the life due to less slippage.

even without headers, you will still be in the 12's...

last year i had mac headers, 2.5 duals, lid, TCI SSF 3500 and went 12.54 at 108.4 on 17" nittos's cutting 1.68-1.75 60's religiously...ON 100% stock motor and suspension.

Oh, and for the record. my car is a 2000 daily driver with 77,xxx miles on it. i have put about 8,000 miles on it since the stall and have well over 100 time slips from 1/4 and 1/8th mile tracks and thats all on the stock rear and TRANS, (knock on wood) The convertor still feels as tight as it did brand new..i couldnt be more happy with any mod i have done as i am with it. but i did add a 26,000 gvw cooler and a good tune at T.E.A as soon as i did the install.

so, imo..GET it. have fun, but dont be trying to beat an m6 from a roll with it. keep it on the track where you have to go from a dig

I dont think going untuned is going to fry your transmission. Note that the guy who just went ahead and blamed the converter with no basis found out that the lines were screwed up and his transmission went dry. Definately NOT the converter's fault.

You should get 12's. I went 12.6 with a car that made 319 rwhp on the unlocked stock conveter. Just added the SSF3500 and sticky tires.
