Default First Time installing a trans, yes it happened to be 4x4 lol!

Man oh man, I have learned a great deal in the past few days. All the new tools I bought, that 60e on the yukon, what a pain to take out, with all the rusted tight bolts, all different sizes, metric this and 3/8 to 9/16ths. This was my first install with only the haynes as my guilde, never even dreaming I would do this in a lifetime, but got a few questions, whats the best way to flush the radiator coolant for the trans fluid? (Without any fancy tools), cant afford to by no more, lol. Secondly, how much trans fluid to put on start up? I will post the results of my venture soon, thanks all.

To flush the tranny cooler out, a cheap and easy way of doing this, is take a can of carb cleaner (like 1.27 at discount auto), put the straw on it, take one of the coolant lines (the one that ends up on top at the radiator), Jam the straw into it and do your best to seal it with your hand (your gonna get it all over your hand and possibly much worse), run the whole can through it, then take a compressor and a blow nozzle and do the same thing to clear the carb cleaner out of it. Whalla, usually it takes one can to do the trick.

As with the tranny start up, I would put 8-10 qts. in there but I've been known to be a little fearce of any possiblity of the valve body running dry on accident. Your best bet is to call a local trans guy and get his .02 on that just to be sure.
