Default How often does a th350 low roller go bad?

I built a 1971 th350 for a kid at work. It destroyed the low roller.
It's in a 1986 camaro with a stock 305.
Also the snap ring for the direct clutch spring retainer came off.
This is the second time I've had it apart, the first time the pump went bad I'm assuming and it burnt the forward clutches.

Now this is the first th350 I've put behind a stock engine, it's built just like the one I've used behind engines with 3 times the power this 305 has.

What's going on with this thing.

How is the car driven...sounds like there might be some driver error involved.

Thats what I'm thinking and I'm a bit pissed off about it because I built the trans for cost, installed it and dialed in his timing and rebuilt his carb while I was at it. I also used one of my transmissions because we found out he had a th250c.
I already fixed the burned forward clutches because I assume I must have missed something in the pump so I fixed it.
I have 9 low rollers in a bucket of parts and looked at every one of them and they're all good. Seems like they are not a high wear part.
Anyway the it's together on the bench right now waiting for him to pick it up and install it himself.

Yeah, he's 18. I remember when I was that age what I use to do.

AND I told him the trans will handle anything his car can put to it. I must have forgot to mention 'under proper driving conditions'.

AND he got brand new tires right before the trans, I can tell he's been doing burnouts, and thats tough in his car with the low power.
I built a trans just like his, put it behind a 400sbc and it would bark second and third. His won't. So I don't see how it has enough power to break parts unless, like you say, he's doing some things that shouldn't be done.

actually those low rollers are a part that goes bad often when they are abused. they sell a updated heavy duty version. i've only seen it go bad in high powered cars. this kid must be brutal to that trans. lol
