Oh my god.
so i tell her to put it in neutral (a4) and rev the **** out of it.
next thing i hear is GRINDING! OH GOD NO. she put it in reverse....then something cool happened, the engine shut itself down.
she then tells me "it's not doing anything!" when i realized that the check engine NOW light was on, and it was quiet.
interesting...is this a normal thing for our cars to do?
The grinding made me sick to my stomach (the tranny is only 2 months old!!)
but nothing happened, no limp home mode...nothing!
So, im hoping nothing too serious happened....
Comments welcome
I'm just hoping nothing bad happened, and the grinding was the tranny trying to catch reverse at 50, and not doing it.
I just pray nothing broke......god yes i pray.
Oh well, and she claims to drive better than me. buwhahahahaha.
Btw, the f150 didnt win, even with her driving (she's never drove a v8...you can tell. poor honda girl)
20 years ago I did something similar with my wife's car. I was trying for N and overshot it and went into R. The car shut off. I pulled over, put it in P and started right up. The car went another 100k without any tranny issues. Bottom line is most of the autos have a reverse lock-out function to prevent this sort of disaster from grenading the entire tranny.
Just keep her out of the drivers seat IMO lol

What happened is that she put it in neutral, reved it up high, and before it could come back down to idle speed (600 or so) she dropped it in reverse. The tranny shuts down when this happens to prevent troubles..
if you ever do doughnuts in your car, if you rev it up high, and your doing doughnuts, than just let off the gas completely, your car will shut off and the light coems on...Nothing to worry about....
were you on ANY kind of incline by any chance, because that would be my guess?

Nope thats not true-yes there is the feature-but thats not what would have caused this-it is the immediate shift into Reverse

thats why i got her a nice "BIG *** TRUCK" lol.. didn't pay a lot since dad works at the dealer, and i drive it 5 days out of the week somewhere and save miles on the camaro, sets up high, can see out, but i think the 345hp hemi is still to much for the poor girl to handle. if u get serious with her, dont let her start driving ur car on a regular basis... get the girl something nice/big, but not to big or bulky feeling/ and safe.
