2-3 or nuetral? hi everybody, i have a common problem. i've been reading the posts but i can't find the answer to the problem im having, maybe someone knows what i should do: heres my problem:
i have a 4l60e trans that came in a 97 trans am 5.7. i start out in 1 and shifts to 2,when it tries to shift to 3- nothing- like it goes in to nuetral. when i romp on the gas it downshifts to 2, but when it tries to upshift to 3 -nothing- i was told that it might be the shift solenoid. so i replaced 1-2,2-3 solenoid, did'nt help. i'm looking for a cheap fix ,if possible - not sure if i need a rebuild. changed oil and filter and checked all wires. does anybody have an idea what could be wrong and how to fix? any input will be great

I had a similar problem and my clutch in the converter went out. BUT if I had to guess on your trans, I would say 2-4 band or the 3/4 clutch, except I still had 3rd when my 3/4 clutch went out. Did you try putting the car into 3 instead of OD? You might have just lost 4th. Is your fluid clean or is their metal/clutch material in it? I bet you are going to need a rebuild, but maybe not. Sorry dude.
