turbo 400
Any one here that used to have a 4L60E then go to a Turbo 400.
Need a stronger Tranny. Keep breaking my 4L60E. Don't really want to loose my OD it is my everyday driver. Also need a very stronge rear end just broke my 6th set of gears and 2nd carrier. Any info will help.

I made that switch. If it was my daily driver, I would have done a 4L80E instead of a TH400. With 3.73's and 28's, it isn't bad at all to drive around, but highway speeds are limited to 60ish and gas mileage sucks!

60ish just isnt my style. Is it hard to switch from a 4L60E to a 4L80E?

My t400 setup gets about 24mpg on the highway when cruising at 75. Thats with 3.70's and a 28.5" truck tire in the back.

The 80E weights 60lbs more I believe, not entirely sure. Contact Yank. They make conversion kits for the 80e.
Keep in mind to make the 400 or 80e effective you'll need to upgrade the internal gear ratio. That can cost a few hundred extra, and the wiring needs to be modded so it can be hooked up to the pcm.

hmm. I've never heard of the 80E.
****, i wanna get rid of my A4 and get an A5. possilbly an A6 (I've read from some GM site (i think lutz said it) that a 5 and even 6 speed auto is easier to make than an A4. )
Besides, with a 5th gear, my MPG would go up a lil bit

I'm coming close to being in the same position, looking at the same options.
