TH-400 slipping

Hey guys,

I have a TH-400, 34 element sprag, Kolene Steels and blue clutches.

My tranny was slipping from the 2-3 shift. The RPMs would float and it would take about 1 1/2 secods to fully engage in 3rd gear.

Well, I got new Kolene Steels and clutches put in, and the problems seems to be worse. Now it'll slip w/ 3/8 thorttle, and the RPMs actually increase about 250rpm before it starts to try and engage into 3rd.

It has new fluid and filter also.

Any suggestions??

Sounds to me like who ever put them in didn't do a very good job. I'd take it back to them and have them correct it.

in my humble opinion kolene steel are to smooth, no traction

Well, it was happening before and after I put the Kolene steels in.

with out preaching, since all automatic are all hydraulic, a press guage is called for before you go any further. you trans should have at least 160psi in all ranges

Incase you don't know how to run a press check, Remove pressure plug on the drivers side of the case and install a gauge with a 0-300psi range and go from there.
