Default Quick Question

Im taking out my middle consul and I need to know how to take the top of my shifter off, I poped the button off but dont know how to get the boot off PLEASE HELP 98 A4

Put the tranny in 1 (with the engine off of course), and look at the front of the shift ****. There is a little staple-looking clip there. Pull it out and the **** comes right off.

I used a hook tool that's used on transmission o-rings, FWIW.
