Default 1st to 4th?

Hey, Ive been hearing rumors that on manual TransAms they skip a few gears and shift straight into 4th? Is that true, or just a rumor? If it is true, is just better than to race shifting up manually rather then letting it go auto?

Yeah its called CAGS, computer aided gear slection. It locks you out of 2nd and 3rd under light acceleration.

The manuals come with a skip shift program to meet fuel usage requirements. If you arne't into the gas very much it will force you to go from 1-4. If you give it any real amount of gas you can go to second. It is very easily deleted. I don't get what you are sayign when you ask if it's better to shift manually than let it go auto. With a manual there is no letting it go auto option. On the auto cars you will always go 1-2 and should not shift it manually to race.

With an automatic just leave it in OD and call it good. The 1-4 and all that junk is only with M6's. In the auto third (D) is 1:1 and fourth (OD) is overdrive.

chances are your shifter reads

P or P
R or R
N or N
D or OD
3 or D
2 or 2
1 or 1

It doesnt skip anything-both of the ways shown are the gears 3 or D will shift 1st-2nd-3rd gear-abnd for D or OD itll shift 1-2-3-4

3 or D is a 1:1 ratio and D or OD is like a 0.5:1 or something like that if you have a Bird "D" is overdrive goes throuigh all 4 gears and if you have a camaro "OD" is Overdrive
On a Bird "3" is drive only goes up to your 1:1 gear and in a camaro "D" is the drive gear only goes to your 1:1

now 1st and 2ns both mean it starts off in that gear for newer ones i believe its 99/00-02 where it starts AT 2nd gear if the shifter is on 2-rather then 98-99(?) shifted 1-2 with the shifter at 2

Its really weird just leave it in D-bird or OD-camaro or leave it in 3-bird or D-camaro all depends on situation fuel economy consern go witht eh 1st choiice
