Is a 4400 stall to big
i was looking at a tci converter with a 3800 stall, but i found a tci 4400 stall cheap. Is there going to be a huge differece. I will also be running n20, which ive heard makes you converter stall higher. The car will be driven street and strip. It has 390gears in it, never had a stall before so i dont know what to expect. basicly want to know how streetable it would be with a 4400 stall.
thanks

It's getting way up there. I've got a PT4000 in my 2000 SS. According to Yank, my converter has a shift extension of 5600 RPM so I can only imagine how much a 4400 will be. Also, when I asked about spraying my converter, they said it was going to get really loose in a hurry with a probably shift extention of around 6200+. That's on a PT4000. A 4400 converter on N20 is going to turn some hellacious RPM in a big hurry. This is Yank, not TCI though so I'm not sure if Yank's converters are a little looser for the rated stall speed or not.

BTW, do you have HALs or some other adjustable shocks on the front? Noticed in your pic in your sig your car is launching higher on one side.

I have a true 4300 stall in mine. It's almost not enough. But I do have 3.23 gear so I probably need a little more than a low geared car.
For reference, I raced a stock engine 4.6 Cobra at the track last night that ran a 1.586 60' with only a 12.48 et @ 107.53 mph. He had a 5000 stall. Without that stall/60' he would have been a 13 second car. You just don't get that 60' with a normal stall and a 12.48 et. Of course his engine was a 7000 rpm engine but some of us LS1 guys have 7000 rpm engines too.
Get a converter with a true stall, not rated, 500 rpm below peak torque and you will get pretty close to optimum et.
