Who installed their own gear?
What I did was use the OLD pinion bearing that I honed out a few thousands so i did not have to press it on and off every time to change pinion shims. Then when I got everything looking good I replaced my old bearing with the new one and the pattern stayed looking good.
My best advice would be to have someone help you the 1st time. There is NOTHING worse then getting it all together and having it wine. The bad news is if you put it together wrong and it does wine the changes of you being able to get it to stop wining are slim and none. So it's something you want to get right the 1st time. It's not hard, so if you do it just take your time.

PS DON'T use Richmond gears unless you like noisy gears, ALL Richmonds I've ever heard are loud.
Good Luck.
