Default T.C. Problems '98- '00

Thinking about a T.C. change in 2002. Looking at the P.I. 3200, Yank ST3500 and maybe even the ST3800. This is a daily driver. Want at least a -.50 E.T. reduction but worried about the lock-up/codes problems some have got with the Yanks. How many 98-00 cars are having problems? Noticed a pattern with the 01-02 cars; is this correct?

I have a 2000 and an ST3500 and the only code I had was a direct result of the MTI Ported throttle body's increased idle, for some reason, it didn't throw a code until I paired it with the converter which came months after the throttle body. Either way, I used a friend's non-ported stock TB for a week and no codes.

Other than that, I believe it's mostly the 2001/02 cars having the problems with the ST3500's... not quite sure why that is though.

I'm extremely pleased with my converter. Between the converter and removing the cats I picked up .8 in the 1/4 ET. But I've also been told that is somewhat more than what most people pick up. A gain of at least .4 is usually realized. Also be aware that you will not be able to see those great time improvements without at least having a pair of drag radials. You'll still gain a couple tenths of street tires but any reasonably sized converter will simply bake street tires.

SY3500 here. 2000 T/A, no problems, no codes, no lock up issues, it’s been in the car for over a year.
And yes, you MUST get traction to see any real gains from a TC. The higher shift extension will still help you, but the real gains are in the launch.

98, vig3200, never a code or a problem. shifts past 6200 with the stock tach, no hpp3

11 Yank converters...3 F-bodies (2 '98s and 1 '00) and no codes. I believe it's the later year cars that are more sensitive to setting codes. The reason why you're seeing more Yank ST3500s setting codes on '01s and '02s is that there are so many more of them out there than any other brand...and that's a fact.

I'm leaning toward the Yank 3500. Right now, all I have done is !FRA !EGR Direct Flo lid Holley Filter and Hypertech 160 T Stat, Fan early on 100% Firmness and altered shift points My best Et so far is 12.973 @ 107.90 at ATCO last Saturday!!! This is in a 2000 Camaro SS with T-Tops, pwr everything and that quite not so restrictive Fac SLP Dual-Dual.
