A4 newbie, I gotta question I have been on the M6 side of things for the last three years. Just traded my '98 Z in for a '02 A4. The Question...
I hear alot peolpe saying "my converter locks up at 45mph or 50mph" or whatever.. What does that mean and what are the tell-tale signs that it has happened??

Re: A4 newbie, I gotta question casually take off from a stop. dont get on it or any thing. you may notice 4 shifts. that last one is actually your converter locking up. its not really a shift, just a drop in rpm when the converter locks. i think, technically, its around 43mph. you notice it more with an aftermarket verter since you usually are waiting for it to lock up to get back to the good mileage. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
thats the simple definition. Patrick G can probably go in further with a technical perspective in terms of the converter itself.

Re: A4 newbie, I gotta question on other words you can feel the stall untill it locks... locking is sorta what it feels like when the car goes into OD...
you will know when its unlocked.. feels like your slipping a clutch and waiting to WOT it... its a awesome feeling...
mine locks at 35-38....
