Default questions on the shift kit for 4L80E

ok my mom and dad own a swimming pool company, and we have a fleet of 16ish trucks ranging from years 1985 to 2000....

one of our chevy 2000 3500s has the 4L80E tranny and this truck is a true work horse, we tow from 2000lbs to all the way upto 16k or more, the shifts arent all that great so im gunna order a tranny cooler and my main question is...what transgo shift kit the hd one will be good for towing and etc??? my dad doesnt want that slam into gear stuff like i like...he wants crispy shifts and with better milage at the same time....i told him that the shift kit will extend the life of the tranny for sure, along with help with the shifts and allow it to tow better and etc...

with out havin to rebuild the tranny or let alone pull it from the truck what could we do to make this thing truely perform perfect and last 200k + miles

Towing is hard on any transmission, shift kit or not. The TransGo kit can be set up for more crisp shifts without jolting. If it's a 2000 3500 I'm guessing it's an old body style with a 454.

The TransGo (4L80EHD-2) kit includes a few modifications for the internals too. Those can be left out if you're not pulling the trans. To get to those internal parts you have to be doing a rebuild at the same time practically.

For the shifts you're talking about stage 2 would probably work the best for a 4L80-E with stock clutches.

I got ahold of a 4L80E out of a 1999 silverado 3500HD tow rig, it had a little over 60,000 miles on it.
It had no reverse because the boost valve was sticking and the high pressure broke the reverse servo.
I tore it down for a rebuild. The bushings were worn really bad. Nothing else was wrong with it, I only changed the bushings and rubber seals, rings, etc.
It shifted nice and firm like it had a kit in it, but it didn't.

I'd at least get a pressure limiting boost valve, a transgo kit is a good idea.
