Default Best Daily Driver 4speed 10sec transmission

Ok, im already running 11.1 and still have stock rear end, stock trans, stock headers, stock stall, stock cam, and on and on. Im going with a Moser 9inch rear end, and a 3600 nitrous stall, i know for sure, but im kinda lost on what transmission to use. The car is still my daily driver so id like to keep the OD. This is a nitrous car of course. The rear end is rated at like 1500hp, I dont want to have to replace, or rebuild the transmission any time soon. Obviously over time everything breaks. But would like it to hold up as long as possible. Hell, im suprised my stock trans is holding up. I have over 30 sub 11.5 runs, and countless street runs, and everything is holding up fine, but its on borrowed time i just know it. Oh well, thanks for the help.

I say the 200-R4 is the best for what youre looking for. 4 speed, streetable, strong, etc. Its non-computer controlled, lightweight, efficient, etc. I have one for sale with everything that you need except the driveshaft. Click on the link in my signature that reads Century Transmission 200-R4 & Yank PT4400.

Kevin.... can't believe you asked this question here lol... you know the answer is going to be the tranny with the most electronic gadgets and computer controls that costs the most.

TH400 w/ lockup ... no question about it. Or spend huge (and I mean HUGE) dough on a built up tranny that started out as junk so you can have an overdrive... not worth it IMO.

www.rossler.com

I have used them since 1990 for built 700R4 and 4L60E....work great on a 4000 lb 10 second car.

Rossler is definitely good. Since you are in Il, I would look at FLP. Buying local (or close to it) is a good idea. If they build and install it, warranty issues become much less of a hassle.

Personally, I hate messing with any working tranny. Seems like that half the time, once someone opens one up, the evil spirits creep in.

Ill just be spraying a 100 shot, rest is all motor.. are 360 - 370 rwhp..
so about 470 rwhp w/ the spray and around 600 rwtq ...

I dont want to spend 1000+ on a rebuild and have problems all over again, I might get a vacume modular 4l60e this time..

Ive always been leaning towards a TH400, but the 3 speed thing has me worried. Its still a daily driver. I dont have a crap load of money to spend on gas with how much i drive. Any idea with 323s what type of RPM im going to be turing at 65mph? Damnit, i just need to buy a 91 Civic hatch like i used to have 36mpg/$40 a month full coverage. And the easiest damn car todo maint on.

IMO, 4L60E + Nitrous = allot of headaches.

My suggestion, do a search here about a 4L80 swap and be done with it.

Again, if youre looking with a tranny that has overdrive and not have to worry about breaking it, go with a 200-4R. Yes you'll spend the money upfront, but then again, you wont have to spend it again. TH350 and TH400 are strong no doubt, but they are 3 speeds. The TH400 is a very heave transmission and much more inefficient. To build the TH400 strong and lightweight, you'll spend thousands. The 4L80 is strong, but extremely heavy. The 200-4R the way to go. Its even more efficient than the TH350 and only weighs 100 lbs. I'm not sure if you viewed the link in my thread abou the 200-4R I have for sale, but its rated for 900hp/900tq and can hand deep 9s with no problem.

Everything can break no matter how beefed up it is or how bullet proof someone says it is....

4L80E is the best bet for a heavy car with LOTS of power. I would love to see a write up on how to install one in a late model F-body. It will take probably another 40 hp to run over a 4L60E, but will last forever.
