Default Vaccum Modulation on a 4L60.....

I just started doing my H/C swap on my car as I was pulling off the driver's side head I noticed that the vaccum line from my brake booster to the tranny was collapsed shut. I've noticed that the tranny has been shifting a little funny but I thought it just might need a little tuning. Has anyone run into a problem like this? Also what kind of vaccum line should I use? The one that came with the rebuild kit is a clear piece of plastic tubing with a spring in it. I did notice that the spring didn't come all up its about two inches from the top. Does anyone think this might have hurt my tranny?

That spring is just the check valve for the brake booster.

I didnt think the 4L60E used any sort of vacuum for modulation. I may be wrong though

Definitely get that fixed. That can be causing your shifting problems. The spring is supposed to go all the way!

You are correct sir.
The stock 4L60E trans doesn't use vacuum modulated shifting. (it is a good mod to get when having one rebuilt for drag racing though)

It modulates the line pressure in the tranny and take the ecm out of the business of controling it. The vaccum modulator raises and lowers line pressure as your foot raises and lowers the throttle.
