Default Question about 3500 stall Torque Converter Drivability????

I have had my TCI 3500 stall and 24k B&M transcoolero for a couple of weeks now and I wanted to know the reliability of driving the car every other day here and there, normally on the weekends. I usually drive the car smooth unless I have to drive it hard. Do any of you guy have issues or do you drive the car every day?

Also I noticed that the car feels really heavy going in reverse and it turns of sometimes. The car also feels heavy crusing slowly from stop to stop. At times when I decide to give the car a little gas just to catch up to traffic I feel like the car bogs and lets off. Of course when I mash the peddle all the way to the floor the car does fly and thats where I am the most pleased with.

thanks guys let me know what you guy think.

Oh yeah a buddy of mine has a 2800 stall and said that a 3500 stall is strictly for the track. I dont know about that?

I have has my TCi SSF3500 for a month now and it drives just fine. I have a few issues with buking while the verter is loked under about 50mph but I should be able to get that tunned out. BTW: your buddy is uninformed.

And I thought a 4200 stall in a daily driver was pushing it.

Grea info guys. I love the car at wide open throttle. Like Joel SS said under 50 the car bogs and feels sluggish when I cruise. I sure enjoy mashing the peddle with the nittos.

Unlocked its going to take some RPMs to get it going. The stall is slipping more so it's not as peppy as it would be with the stock stall. No two ways around it. Stalls dont shine until heavier part throttle or full throttle acceleration. All the other stuff you just have to live with. If you drive it as often as you indicate I'm surprised you haven't gotten used to it yet, unless you just sit around and watch the RPMs or thinking about throttle input vs. acceleration. Just drive the car and enjoy it. If it isn't moving fast enough or feels sluggish, give it some more gas. Anything over 50-60% throttle and it should feel pretty peppy.

I have a Mustang, but nevertheless it's got a 3200 stall, and I completely agree with the guy above. It will take more RPMs to get it going, so with the same throttle as before when you were stock, it will feel sluggish, because the converter is a lot looser now. But once you press the pedal down, the added torque multiplication from the new converter is what makes it a lot more fun to drive.

Changing your gears from 3.23s to 3.73s will tighten up the car as well.

i dont know about that.
everyone here was telling me that
when i went from 2.73 to 3.73
there was hardly a difference

definately not worth the time effort and cash put in

only A LITTLE tighter from a stop
shifts were A LITTLE more firm

5300?!! sheesh

i was going to say, metallicbluews6
you friend is a b*tc*!
3500 race only HAHAHA THIS IS LS1TECH BEEYATCH

i have a 4000 stall DAILY DRIVER and yeah..
its loose sometimes
but the looser it is the better not only your takeoff rpm will be
but the less your rpms will drop when the trans shifts (shift extention?)

increasing STR will make the feel tighter
but decrease your shift extention

2800??? thats what stock SHOULD be.

Daily driver here with SS4000 stall and 3:23 stock gears.

I have had no troubles with this set-up as far as not feeling right.
If you don't like the way it drives, get it restalled . But call and talk to the convertor company so they can give you your options.

I just restalled my SS4000 to a PT4000 and will soon be switching to a 3:73 gears as well.

The bigger the convertor, the greater the need for tuning it. Have someone tune your trans shift points at part throttle and i bet that helps you out.

Good luck

Dave

The car "should" feel tighter at lower speeds instead of feeling like a slug with these damn 2.73s.
