3500 rpm stall would be a good fit with a 224 cam.
i have a 3000 stall along with a 224 cam and the car drives great

For a stock trans with cooler I would run no bigger then a 3500...for a built trans 4000+ I run a vig 4000 (more like 4500) and it kicks much ***... My car with just headers and my stall went from 13.91 @101 to a 12.66 @ 106 pretty good for just headers and a stall... and ofcourse a cut out and Nitto DR's
