Unhappy Th 350, B&M rebuild tolerance problem

Hi all, new to the site. Rebuilding a th350 for my 78 400cid T/A,
using a B&M rebuild kit. Everthing went by the book untill we attempted to install the replacement pump. It lacks 0.060" from settling into place and even tighting bolts finger tight locks up the tranny! We have carefully reassembled the clutch packs several times and it keeps coming out the same. The pump assembly was replaced because the original was galled. We were wondering if there were different pumps made that look the same but may have slightly different dimentions? Since our original was turned in as core we don't have anything to go by. Are there significant differences in needle bearing and shim thickness if the pump came from a buick instead of a chevy trans?
