Anyone done a 4L80E in a newer F-body?

I need help! I will be making 650-900 hp with a 408 and a T76 turbo and need info on getting a 4L80E to work with my 2002 Z28.

Any advise is greatly appreciated.

Car will be mainly street, not much strip.

I like an overdrive tranny.

HELP ME!

What concerns should I have to make this work and who should I get the tranny from?

Can't help you with who to get the tranny from. Look for an 01+ to get all the newest improvements. I have a 01' 4L80e in my 00' firebird. You will need a flexplate, converter, tranny brace, cooler lines, and driveshaft. You can get adapter wiring harness to use the stock computer if you already had a 4l60e, but will need a custom flash with the 4l80e software. You can also use a tci power train control module that works well. May want to call up rossler, flp and rock on to get some pricing and insight on what is available. I know rossler did a transbrake for the 80e. I used the stock shifter with an adapter to get it to work.

yank verter

you will have to do clearancing on the case to make it fit.

TwinTurboCe has a rossler tranny, I spoke to rossler briefly and we were up to 5k for the tranny before core. so be sitting down if you call them

I believe its around 5 grand to get it all done. too much in my opinion plus they're very heavy.

I have the Hughes Street/Strip 4L80E in my G-body, and it is great. You can control the line pressures vs. TPS and MPH in each gear, set upshift/downshift points for each gear, datalog, and more.

Here's a picture that might help (though not much for an f-body):

It did cost me $4800 including shipping and the core charge. I tried to find a good core cuz it would have saved me about $600 after shipping, but I couldn't find one for a good price in the 30 day time period.

It is heavy but not much more than a TH400 with a GV Overdrive, and you do not get the cool computer control with that setup.

yea if price is no object, you can guy Rossler, but Finishline Transmission is a great compnay as well, plus they have a 8 sec truck( Parish8 on here) that they have there 80E in. Mine cost around $4K-ish with core, but I think it is going to be worth it.

ABeasst 09-22-2005 10:08 PM

he doesnt run 8s....but yea he has put a beating to it and its still running

99SS-T 09-22-2005 10:26 PM

Parish has a 8 second powertrain that is for sure. If that was in a f-body witht eh correct suspension and driver i could see it doin that all day long. 1k rwhp goes a long way. GL man

sorry guys

sorry about that guys, i thought I read where he ran some 8's in that thing, i think i might have mistaken it for 8 second builder or something like that, none the less he has over 1000 RWHP and that tranny so it will work great. I ordered the tranny for my upcoming project as well so I will post results in about 2-3 months when i am done.

i am finishing mine up now.. i have a full manual valve body with a push button lock up. . tranny is in. just waiting to the drive shaft..

CTSmechanic 09-23-2005 12:04 PM

The 4L80's are right at 30 pounds more than a TH400, I was worried about that also so we put them on scales back to back.
