Most effective gears with an A4 and a 100% stock motor?
Hey guys, can someone tell me the "best" rear gears for an A4 with a converter and a 100% stock motor. I know this question has probably been asked 1,000 times but I'm new to the F-body camp so hang with me, please. I am assuming 3.73's? I will not have the car until next week but the two choices I've narrowed it down to both have 100% stock motors and the one I go with will stay that way. I am not even going to do the free mods. Thanks for your input...
With a good converter installed, 3.73s will add only about .1 and 1 mph in the 1/4 over 3.23s. 3.73s feel great on the street from a roll, but 3.23s will be easier to launch from a dead stop.
You can decide if it is worth the investment. I'd do the converter and leave the gears alone unless you had a specific combo in mind like the SY3500 & 3.73s

If you want a fast car and still retain a stock motor get 4.10s. You will need drag radials and yes it will be a beast. You will hang wth m-6s from a roll, and pull hard to 120 mph.
I have a vig 3200 with 3:73 gears on an auto with a few modications. It is a great combination after you figure out the traction issues. I recommend Hal Shock and Hal Drag springs. Happy motoring. Also, great for street or strip.
