Default trans tuning after stall?

i am getting the trans tuned after the stall goes in, but i will have about a week of downtime in between. stall goes in tomorrow, trans tune is next week. anyone have any problems with running the **** out of their car before the trans tune? i can't think of any problems except a lack of performance.

Im not sure how big you went but after my stall I was visiting the rev limiter more than I liked at some of the shifts but thats about it.

With a 4k stall you might have some issues. My 3400 stall has been fine without a tune except pwm under 2k rpms.

so you haven't tuned yours and you cut a 1.7 60'? spinning slightly, i presume. i was worried that tqm would REALLY hurt me with a stall this big. it was hurting me before the stall because of my shiftkit. (full race) but i know after the stall that it will shift softer, or so i hope. it totally rapes the car 1-2, anything above 2k and it'll hop the assend over and chirp. i got sideways at the track in 2-3 with f'n drag radials on. that was interesting...

I havent tuned mine at all, I do have a Predator and before I even bought the stall converter TM was removed through a custom Predator tune, so it wasn't a issue. I did change my 2-3 shift a little, I have had a issue with bouncing off the rev limiter since stock, not all the time, but random. I didn't see a change with the new converter, would still bounce off the limiter at times, but is fine now that I lowered the shift point and upped the limiter slightly.

So I guess there is something done, but wasn't specific to the converter I put in. My car before the stall really set me into the seat at the shifts. Is funny now it goes down the track so smooth you can't even tell when it shift by watching the run, only by the sound. My typical 60 foot times were 1.94's before the Fuddle, now 1.70-1.76 is common. I really haven't been to the track when there has been optimal conditions yet so I am sure 1.6's in 60 are possible and a 12.5 run. But I have made a good 40 runs since the converter, last 20 or so have had 0 track prep and 60 foot times have suffered to a 1.77 to 1.88 with alot of 12.8 and 12.9 runs spinning pretty bad.

I have read that one shouldn' t go WOT until the converter has locked/ unlocked about 50 times, or a few days, to allow it to break in. As far as a tune, you should be okay for a week or so. I would recommend leaving the shifter in D, NOT OD, unless you are on the freeway. I found that my tranny and PCM goes nuts and will lock out first and OD, leaving me with only 2 and 3. Aside from that, you will be fine until a tune. Raise your idle RPMs too. Smaller converters carry less mass, and if you come to a stop quickly, the car may want to stall out.

Nope. You can force it to lock up, but generally, I do not believe so.

this is a good thing. i believe the lockup clutches are the weakest link in our aftermarket converters. i think i can make mine last if i can keep it from locking up all the time. how hard is it to install a manual lockup switch?
