Man, I really need to find someone who has a TC installed and take a ride in it. The problem is, nobody I know out here has one, and there isn't a track within a couple hours ride...that's what happens in the Low Country....I guess the "Slow country" with all the old folks out here in Hilton Head. Someone open a 1/4 mile track in Southeastern SC.

I wouldn't mind how my ss4000 drives if my exhaust wasn't so loud. Its just too loud barely getting up to the speed limit. But once I hit the gas its all worth it.

Do you have tuning software? Raising your Part Throttle shifts, especially the 2-3 and the 3-2 would cure that. Like sleeperstyle mentioned, I had 3rd gear lock -up engage at a pretty low speed at light TPS as lock-up eliminates looseness. Combine that with the higher 2-3 shiftpoint and the car will feel much better.

I wasn't happy with my first converter after a month. I had a 2800 and realized that I went too small.

i went with a tci ssf 4200 with a 2.2 str and absolutely loved it....my wife didn't like it because it made the car feel "heavy" driving around town, but from what i've heard a tune would have taken care of that, and i sure didn't mind......the tires didn't like it so much
i need to rebuild my motor and was thinking of going with bigger cubic inches, but with the stock engine and the high stall i was very happy with it, so it's actually making me lean towards a closer to stock displacement replacement...

I seem to trap about 106-107 @ 12.7-12.9, and don't have many passes (maybe 10 total). I think this is due to the inefficiency of the converter. Have gotten pretty good 60' foot times with my street tires, usually 2.0, but have gotten a 1.89. On the street your not really going to accelerate quick at all unless you give it at least half throttle. You really need three-quarters to make a statement that you want to move, and basically wot so no converter (drag if you will, is evident). Maybe this is all in my mind, but this being my first aftermarket converter, that is my perception. It is fun being able to hammer the car from a stop or roll and spin the tires with the associated noise. What will not be so nice is when I get longtubes and the noise accerating the car at a low throttle position is going to draw attention, some people who are not familar with a converter will probably think something is wrong with car, but oh well. Just so long as the cops don't hassle me. I don't drive the car enough to notice a fuel consumption difference, so that is a non-issue. If I was to do it over, I think I could get by, and the car would perform better to suit my needs with a vig 2600, or a more efficient converter with the stall I have now.
Something sounds very wrong there. I dyno around 322 rwhp(non dyno queen numbers) but trap 109 usually. vig3200 here which is less efficient than a 2800. With 380 rwhp you should see over 110mph.

I don't personally own tuning software but I have had tuning done and it's as much a part of getting things right as converter, shift kit, or anything else. Notice I said "sometimes" it feels loose in third ... those "sometimes" are for instance when going around a sharp corner in fourth at lift throttle. The car downshifts into third and when re-applying the throttle, I get more converter rpm than forward motion, i.e., looseness. It would be overmuch, IMO, to tune it to downshift into second at that speed. I took the opposite approach and eliminated third gear lock-up with tuning. In such situations, all it would give me is bogging. A little bit of looseness now and then does not detract much from the overall satisfaction I get driving this converter in town every day.

Love my converter. Ran a Vig 2800 for many years. Just upgraded to a Vig 3200. Should have went higher.

Ha Ha.. Funny. I love the way mine feels, sounds and drives. The ONLY thing is, in some traffic when its a little hot out, the temps really shoot up there (200-210). I need to re-position the cooler as it is just strapped to the lower passenger side of the radiator. Need to put it in a different spot and I am sure it will be fine.
I need to get rid of TM as well, sometimes it wont lock up. I end up turning the car off and back on and it locks up fine. Only done it 2-3 times.

hehe...its so easy to just break the rearend loose at the push of the pedal...so much different vs the stock converter(damn anchor) nice sig btw

During traffic mine gets up there too 200-210...i need to get a 160 Thermo and i should be fine...my tranny cooler is infront of the condenser right above the bottom spoiler...seems to be doing good...i want to get a tranny temp guage aswell. I herd if u drive around in D(3rd) that its better for gas mileage cause when u have it in OverD it fluctuates the RPM's and its worse for gas mileage...when i run around in D seems to be getting great gas mileage also its awesome when u are on a slanted hill, people would think ur a M6 cause u start to roll back its awesome. then u can just fry the crap out of the tires i love that

Black98Z28, I was looking at ur car domain site. It says u ran a 13.6 in Albuquerque with just a converter and a flowmaster? Thats crazy good considering yalls altitude is above 5k.

I love my Yank PT 4200... Gas mileage did definitely take a toll, but that's partly due to my driving habits

nobody believes me that im not launching the car as hard as it could be on the street because im beating alot of them out of the hole. so i fry up my nitto's for like 10 seconds, then stall up a little bit and drop the hammer- only to blow the nitto's off again . they all shut up after that, people have no idea. who would've thought a modification that LOOSES hp would be so effective for drag racing/ launching.

i have yet to put street tires on this car/converter, i think im gonna put some on just for laughs over the winter. see how long i can get some marks going. im guessing a football field if i can keep it straight btw im also 2.5 str.

Lol, I can burn mine for a football field now with drag radials. It would be scary to put street tires on it, they would start spinning by accident. Mine is even worse because I have 3.73s and man it makes it hard to launch without spinning. By the way you have some real nice times for what you have done, thats about what I was running with a large cam too. I changed a few things including my converter and it got me into the 11s but not by much. You should be deep in the 11s with a cam.

I loved mine in my other red Z, but it's out of the car now.

I really want to put it in my new pewter one, but might have to sell it. I really loved it though!

good launch, street tune (never been on a dyno) done by me. not sure what the car weighs, and i some little free mods (custom ram-air, coolant bypass, egr cutoff). also ! swaybar, battery relocation, adj phb, subframes, window-weld in trans mount (like a polymount), thermostat with fan switch, trans cooler and shift-kit.

i run no rear seats, no spare and jack- that's really it for weight reduction. the conditions were pretty good, low 60's* out and medium (65% i think) humidity at atco. a few weeks prior in warmer weather with more humidity i ran 12.3's @ 110mph with low 1.7 60fts, so if i can get 1.6X 60fts the car is a high 12.1 or a 12.2. i KNOW with 3.73's and slicks i could get the car in the high 11's right now if the rear didn't break, but i would like to spray it next season on some mickey thompson drag radials to see how deep into the 11's i can get. tnt f1 kit.

Damn, you're killing me here! I can't wait to get the stall in my new Z!
