Default Tranny Pump

I have a '98 Trans am and I am in need of a pump for the transmission. I have heard they are pretty straight forward for putting them in just wanted to know if anyone had done it, and if there is anything particular I should know. Also need to know where to purchase one, and what my options are for an aftermarket one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The shaft that has the two notches on it from the converter has some rough spots on it and one of the tabs the converter goes around is broke. I showed a friend who own's a transmission shop and he said that is what is was also.

They make a tool to pull the pump out of the housing. Borrow it from your friend or you'll have a really tough time pulling the pump. You'll need a new seal for the input shaft, one for the pump body, the oring for the pump and be sure to replace the pump filter while you are at it.

Don't forget to pull the pan and remove the filter, and the TC lock-up solinoid before pulling pump.

I would think a friend who owns a transmission shop would help you out a bit more.

When you R&R a pump the transmission has to stand on the tailhousing end.
I use a bench with a 2 1/4" hole in it, take the tailhousing off and put the output shaft through the hole.
You will never get the pump back in with the trans sitting down. Well you might but the sealing rings that go into the reverse input drum will get ruined.
