LS1 Vs LT1 tranny
whats the difference between the two.. my stock one went Kaboom and im hobbling around on it till I can get a new one. Ive got a chance to get a built one from a guy in DFW for 900 bux.. mad dog out of florida built it.. its the godfather but its for a LT1.. what do I have to do to make it work?
They are too dissimilar for it to even be worth it. First off, the LT1 uses a 1-piece case wheras the LS1 has a two piece. You'd only be able to use 5 of the 8 bellhousing bolts, since the LS1 has one at the very top wheras the LT1 is biased towards the passanger cylinder head and the LT1 has zero that can go to the oil pan. The LT1 uses a 298mm Torque Converter, which is about 1/2" thinner than the LS1's 300mm Converter. With a 300mm converter, you also need a different stator support and turbine (input) shaft, but it won't all fit in the LT1's bellhousing once the converter is installed.
