I would buy a B&M replacement pan first. So the next time you will have a drain plug to drain it with so you don't go through this mess again. The biggest problem I had was that the neck of the filter has a brass fitting. That fitting stuck up inside of the trans and had to pull it out with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Ummm... I've also read that you should stick with the cheap dexronIII.

What do you guys think about the Canton LS1 oil pan ???

Or what are some Oil pans recommended ?? I knwo a drain plug will really help on the next change of fluid.

I probably should have mentioned in this post that Yank was the outfit that told me this. These guys know what they're talking about. When spring comes, and my SS3200 goes in, I'll be using Dexron.

Isn't that the pan that's around $400 or more? Your money would be better spent elsewhere if thats the case. Stick with the B&M, it's less than $170 from most sponsors.

to anyone that is just droping the pan and changing the trans fluid YOU ARE NOT CHANING ALL THE OIL, JUST WHATS IN THE PAN. There is about another 8qts in the trans and converter. Easiest and best way to chang it is to take the cooler line off and have the trans pump it out. Note that you will have to shut the car off, fill the trans and then turn the car on again to pump the rest of the old fluid out, then turn the car off and refill the trans. You keep doing this untill the fluid coming out of the cooler lines is nice and red(new fluid color)

i got the derale pan which has a drain plug, it was only like $70 plus shipping from jegs or summit or whoever else carries it. it also has cooling tubes, which i guess in theory should work but even if they dont they still look kinda cool.

Do you need to use RTV on the gasket for the pan when putting it back? I have yet to do this myself.
