shifting problem

shifting problem ok my boy has a 98 z28 cars was running perfect
1 he took tranny out to get rebuilt and shift kit & 2800 stall
2 once put back in now check engine light comes on and auto shifts like a m6 and car cuts of at idle rpms go up and down on its own
ok any help is better than none thankx guys
