Default 4l60E vacuum modulator

What advantages do you get in going to a vacuum modulated 4l60E?Does it help to eliminate that delay between shifts or hitting the rev limiter?

It allows the line pressure to react much quicker changes in the throttle, due to reading real world conditions (vacuum). The "modified" Trans-Go Performance Shift kit that I use will allow 2-3 WOT shifts without hitting the rev limiter, this is assuming that the 3-4 clutches are in good shape. The modulator will let you get full line pressure (220-235lbs.) in the manual 3 or 4 position. The stock setup unless modified correctly by ones such as Ed Wright, etc., will not allow the above line pressure at WOT, in the manual 3 or 4 position, which is needed to make the 2-3 WOT shift, and keep the 3-4 clutch pack alive.

It might, but adding the modified Trans-Go Shift kit should fix it for sure if the unit is in good shape.

The "modified" Trans-Go" Shift kit comes with different hole sizes in the separator plate for the smaller diameter torque converter. This will make the shifts happen quicker & firmer, without undue firmness. Do not add any spacers to the 2nd gear accumulator, if you want a smooth 1-2 part throttle shifts, you will still have firm WOT shifts. The kit is a good afternoon worth of work. You will need an inch pound torque wrench, blue shop towels, solvent, air, hand drill, and the usual shop (hand) tools. The vacuum modulator can be installed at the same time you install the kit.

Nope, you gotta pull the valve body to get to the separator plate. Plus, it's much, much easier working with the valve body on a bench. I've seen Dana's instructions and they're pretty easy to follow, plus I hear he's willing to spend time on the phone with you till you get it right.
