Just to double-check--- torque converter install question
PLEASE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG
search function is not working for me so I apologize in advance for asking questions that I'm sure have been answered many times previously...
1/2 to 1 quart of fluid in the new torque converter... right?
4 quarts down the tranny tube
start car... shift through all gears while stopped, turn car off
insert 4 more quarts.
good to go?
like i said, please correct me if i am wrong. i haven't worked on this car in over a year and my "mechanical" knowledge is lacking lately.

I think you are okay on how much to put in the converter, but, I think, on the whole, the additional eight quarts may be too much. I know just a fluid change and filter usually runs about 4-5 quarts. Depending on how much you spill, pulling the tranny, and getting in back in there, will dictate how much you need. I would be very careful when adding the fluid. Adding too much is bad, just as not adding enough. Typically, when I start adding, I add a couple quarts, and keep an eye on the level, after shifting thought the gears, when it' s up to temperature. I check the level once more, then I' ll go for a short spin around the block, and check/ add as needed. Again, I think I only replace about four to five quarts on a filter/gasket service.

Put 4-5 quarts in the tranny, start the car and let it run for THREE SECONDS to let the pump circulate the fluid. Then add another few quarts, start it again, and keep adding while it runs until the fluid level is correct. You may have to turn it off to get a proper reading.
*Edit - sorry, this is for a new tranny with no fluid in it, lol.
