Default Shifter stuck in neutral/drive

Well I was leaving my girlfriends house earlier today when i discovered that my shifter would not shif out of drive/neutral. Any ideas what this could be? Im pretty sure its not the transmission, Im just guessing/hoping that its some kind of solenoid in the center console. Recently it had become hard to change out of park ( the button would not depress). Any help would be appreciated! Im going to tackle the problem tonight/tommorow, just as soon as Clemson gets done beating up on Colorado.

This happened to me before. Look at the shift **** and make sure it is all the way pressed down. My **** was loose and actually ended up coming off in my hand because the retaining clip in it somehow fell out on its own.
