Properly sizing a converter...

Properly sizing a converter... What is a good basis for sizing a converter? I'm running H/C car with stage II heads and 224/224 581/581 112 cam. Currently the car has about a 4800-5000 stall in it. Is that to much? Just want to get the most out of my N/A set-up.

Re: Properly sizing a converter... The stall could be right or could be wrong...it's not just about stall speed but other things like shift extension, efficiency and converter diameter. What converter are you running right now?

STREET (any motor) <-- for drag radials, street tires, etc.
Super Yank 3500
Street/Strip (SI, C, HC, S, dont matter) <--basically you middle of the road converter.
Vigilante 3200 (any year, NO SES LIGHTS!) OR Super Thruster 3500 (NOT for '01 and up)
TRACK (SI, HC, dont matter) <-- Hard core.
Thruster Pro 4400
NITROUS (out of the hole, any motor)
Vigilate 2800
Thats all i would ever use. the "middle" converters (V3200/ST3500) will work well with any gear and with any motor including strokers.
You shouldnt need any other converter
well, unless you dont mind loose converters and dont want to change your gears....the Viglante 3600 or 4000. They will give great 60's with 3.23's.

Re: Properly sizing a converter... That sure sounds like an XE-R cam so that would lead me to believe you are serious about the performance of the car. I'd be looking for a converter somewhere in the mid 4k range and shifts around 6700-6900. Anything less and you really won't be taking advantage of that camshaft.

Re: Properly sizing a converter... Good guess, Shifting at about 6850. Cam is a XE-R cam. Not bad. The stall is a P.I. that has been modified to be more efficient on the top end. Browsing through Yank's website i'm thinking maybe I need to decrease in size to a TP4400. I just want to use the cam as efficiently as possible. I don't want to be too high.
