4L60E overheating?
Today i was recording some burnouts and launches and when i was trying to do the 2nd burnout i stabbed the gas with the brakes engaged and the RPMs wouldn't rise any higher then 3500rpms, and that wouldn't spin the tires fast enough to burnout.
Anyways i drove off and put the trans in D and it wouldn't shift. It was just stay 2nd. Temp got close to 210 on the trans temp gauge and i drove it a bit and then parked it and shut it off. After about 5 minutes i started it again and the temp gauge was just above 180. Checked the trans fluid and it was ok and shut if off for about 5 more minutes. Started it up again and drove it and everything was fine.
Does the 4L60E lock in a gear once it gets above a certain temperature?

Well i didn't want to keep driving it with it stuck in a gear. Thing is is that it was at close to 210* as i turned it off. I let it sit about 5 minutes with the hood up and cranked it back up and it was back to 180*. That was unexpected...i thought it would have taken a lot longer to cool down. It was a windy day and around 60* out.
