hello guys, i just bought a 2000 Pontiac Formula, it has the automatic transmission. also when i bought the car it had a shift kit it with 3.73 gears. so can you please tell me what model of auto transmission i have, and what kind of transmission fluid should i use? i want the best transmission fluid i can get....im gonna change all the fluids this weekend...thanks a lot.

oh yeah also will a shift kit make the life on my transmission longer or will it kill it sooner? ive heard both sides...just curious what you guys have too say. thanks

The shift kit shouldn't hurt it but just to make sure you may want to invest in a B&M Tranny cooler.Its a good investment for like 50 bucks.

 

i may do that, im not sure how to install one though. you probably have to drill somewhere.

 

a shift kit is kinda like whiskey: will a little hurt? nah. will a lot hurt? eventually..


also, no drilling needed with an aftermarket trans cooler. just $50 and about half an hour of your time.

 

can i remove a shift kit? how much work would it take? thanks

 

I don't think you should take the shift kit out myself. I reprogrammed all the shift points and turned the line pressure up ( which makes it shift harder) with a programmer more than a year and half ago and have had no problems at all out of my tranny. I also have had headers , camshaft , and a high stall converter for more than a year and a half, so the car has a pretty good bit of power. And like i said no problems yet. knock on wood.

 

shift kits help...shifting harder causing the clutches to slip less and just grab is better, don't worry about it.

 

one would also think since it is shifting so hard that maybe it is going to do damage, cause you know in most cars when the car starts to shift hard it mean the transmission is going down the drain......also like i said earlier, im gonna change all the fluids in my car, what type of transmission fluid should i use? money doesnt matter, i want the best i can get.
