Default Got the car back...dynoed with TH400....look inside...

After one month I finally got the car back, its amazing except for the fact that the speedo is still messed up...SPEED INC. did an amazing job, if you need any work done go to this guy...awesome work...Well as some of you know I got the full TH400 conversion along with a 12-bolt w/3.73... Pretty expensive bill but well worth it..They had it on the dyno today and were tuning it and it did pretty good, the only problem I have with the car is the fact that the speedo is once again messed up, I think its the tuning...

Dyno #'s w/6-speed (BEFORE) = 360rwhp@6300rpms & 346rwtq@4900

Dyno #'s w/A3 TH400 (AFTER) = 353rwhp@???? & 374rwtq@????

I am very impressed considering I gained a lot of HP back with little free mods...the stall is a 4500 too and its non-locking...I hit it in first w/the nittos out back and spun all the way to 6000...the car shifts like a dream...I can't wait to put the ET streets on and see how the T-brake is...

I will have dyno charts up soon...

Hows the tranny feel on the highway?
Does it feel like it needs an extra gear? how many rpm is it at like cruzin around 70-80?

Thanks
Rob

So Brian, is BV back up and running? I need to get some stuff (shift points and such) corrected. Is he around again?

Glad to see you’re happy ...and nice numbers

Hey Brian,

really nice numbers What was the biggest factor in such a big torque gain? Was it the converter? Or the heavy duty transmision? Or the gears? Or a combination of all three? Or was it some other mod(s)? 35 ft/lbs of torque is a really nice gain!

Ryan,

Brian should be at the dyno day this saturday, you could always call speed inc. and ask if he can get you in...my speedo is messed up still, which has to do with the programming because it was fine on the dyno....

Did I mention those #'s I pulled were with out the programming... I am going to dyno again saturday to see if I gained or lost any, if I lost any I am really going to be upset....

I'm so glad I bought Et streets, I had 3 people and a big *** box in the car and I spun the Nittos to about 5500....

The car shifts soooo damn fast...I will give you a ride if you are at photos this saturday...

I'm going to wait till after the cam goes in (2 more weeks) to mess with the tuning. To see if it needs any thing else besides just further shift point changes. Glad to hear that BV is up and running again. I really didn't want to have to send the PCM to Texas again. I hate having my 'puter hundreds of miles away...

Does anyone know how much drivetrain loss their is with the TH400, I know the 4l60e's are 20% drivetrain loss and the T-56 is 15%...I would think the TH400 would be from 25% and above....If I still had the 6-speed I wouldn't be too suprised if I made about 390rwhp w/stock heads...

Considering every Th400 dyno has lost up to 30rwhp all the time and more that I've seen...me losing 7rwhp is no big deal to me...the car hauls *****...I am going to dyno again saturday to see if I've squeaked any more out from the tuning...the AFR's are perfect right now even though they forgot to set the MAFT back to base...all the other little things I did were a SLP 85mm MAF...that was the only other change that was made besides the trans conversion....I'm hoping for around 375-380rwhp when I put heads on the car, hopefully more...

BIGBOS, Congrats on the new setup! Those are awsome numbers. Keep a close eye on the oil... You will probably find that you burn alot of oil with the greatly increased rpm's... Your ready to rock now. Time for H/C and N20!

4500 non-locking? lol don't think your going to like highway driving too much anymore, but with that T-brake, it's going to launch HARD. My bro-in-law's '66 Chevelle has a t400 with brake. It's like somebody hitting you in the back with a truck. lol

If your getting tuning done, shouldn't you completely remove the MAFT since you no longer need it? I would. I've heard of MAFT's being kind of intermittent.

Now all you need is one of Harlan's 2-steps and your set.

T400 w/Brake -->

Well bos, if you can do the !BOS mod and put in PNUT or lil joey...11.9 could be possible.

First time out, mid 12s very pessimistically.

Does it have the standard 2.52:1 1st gear or the upgraded 2.75:1? I had a 4,600 stall w/ 3.73's and a TH350 for a while in my T/A, and the highway was AWFUL! It would take 4,000+ RPM's to hold 60 MPH going over an overpass. I was thoroughly annoyed. If I ever take this route again, I'll go with the lockup unit from FLP.
Good luck with the new setup! I'm very interested to see how well the car does in the 60' with the t-brake and those gears. You definitely shouldn't have any more tranny worries!
