Default stall/cam matching

People always say you have to match them accordingly, but I don't exactly know what kind of cam would compliment what kind of stall. I'm looking at getting a ver small stall (2800-3200) and a 224 cam when I get to it. Would those compliment each other? If not what combinations would you recommend?

I think you'll maybe regret getting a small stall.Get one that atleast you wont wish you went bigger. You should go with a 3400 to 3600 and never look back.I went with a 3500 2.2 Fuddle a couple of moths ago and to me its perfect.

I didnt want to go to big,but I didnt want to go to small. After doing alot of research in here and seeing all the people move up to a higher stall I just split the difference between the 4000+ people and the guys who went with what they thought was to small.

I know this reallly didnt answer your question about cam matching.I'm sure someone will chime in.

stall and cam matching is this...

you want your stall speed to be just a hair under where your cam makes peak torque...that way when you drop the hammer the rpm shoots to (let's say 4,400 rpm) and then your car takes off ~4,400 rpm, aka peak tq. so now you are multiplying peak torque the instant your tires start rolling. which means you'll have one HELL of a launch, assuming you hook up.

Of course, you'll be fine with what you suggest, but a 3500 stall with a 224 cam sounds like a perfect match to me.

I don't know about that...my SS3600 seems like a perfect match for my stock cam...that TR224 is gonna move the powerband up a bit. Not saying it wouldn't work well though.

I was told to get a low stall since I've got a light car. Is this wrong? Its a 2500lb datsun and I bought a 2200 stall.

A 2500lb Datsun with an LS1? That's awesome...

Yeah, you would want a littler lower, but 2200 won't do much to wake up that engine. I would go with maybe a 3000-3200 (if that's really the total weight of the car...your swap probably made it heavier).

JNorris ran a TR 224 with a TCI 4000 for a while, and had some really good track results. Maybe he'll chime in here.

FWIW, I love my TCI 4000. I'm glad that I didn't go smaller. It works great even with a stock motor. It'll work even better with the F13 I'm getting later.
